New York spot gold fell $2.80 to $1,461.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 0.99 point to 530.02 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 1.25 points to 240.95. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC), a gold weakling this year, recovered six cents to $2.31 on 4.04 million shares.
John Williamson and Jim Greig's Benchmark Metals Inc. (BNCH), up 5.5 cents to 35 cents on 569,000 shares, has received assays of up to 6.01 grams of gold and 282.62 grams of silver per tonne over 14.95 metres from one of two new holes drilled into the Amethyst Gold Breccia (AGB) zone at its Lawyers project in northwestern British Columbia. The interval, which began at a down-hole depth of 230 metres, was bolstered by a 2.95-metre zone that yielded 30.2 grams of gold and 1,361 grams of silver per tonne.
That glittering hole also encountered a shallower, lower-grade zone that produced 1.1 grams of gold and 41.62 grams of silver per tonne over 42.15 metres, starting at a depth of 122 metres. The second just completed hole appeared to hit only that upper zone: It produced 1.15 grams of gold and 30.56 grams of silver per tonne across 67 metres, starting at 52 metres.
