The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Tuesday was a poor 56-86-158 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 538. Yet another modest rally in rough diamond prices has turned into a dead-cat bounce. The rough diamond price index generated by diamantaire Paul Zimnisky shows a 0.2-per-cent decline over the past week, putting prices in the red for the past month and bringing them near the nine-year low set early this fall. Rough prices are now more than 6 per cent lower than a year ago and are over 25 per cent below their highs of 2011.

Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD), unchanged at 1.5 cents on 162,000 shares, has been silent about its Timantti diamond project in east-central Finland. In July, the company trenched two new kimberlite discoveries near its Wolf pack of kimberlites, and it sent 17 samples to a Helsinki-based lab for processing. There has been no word since then about the tests, one of which came from the Karhu kimberlite and another from the Plug discovery. The 15 other samples were of other clay-rich zones encountered during the trenching.
