New York spot gold rose $0.90 to $1,226.20 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 8.30 points to 682.16 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.62 point to 171.63. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) was strong today. It added 42 cents to $11.22 on 1.01 million shares. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO) was not. It lost six cents to $3.58 on 1.76 million shares.
Mario Stifano's Cordoba Minerals Corp. (CDB), up 1.5 cents to 14 cents on 1.19 million shares, has sold 26.6 million shares at 9.75 cents to its major shareholder, Robert Friedland's High Power Exploration Inc. The $2.6-million in new cash is for regional exploration at the San Matias gold and copper project in Colombia and for drilling at its Perseverance porphyry project in Arizona. The company sold 16.29 million shares at 10.5 cents to High Power this summer, raising $1.7-million. High Power holds about 80 per cent of Cordoba's 250 million shares, most of them acquired through transactions surrounding the San Matias project.
