The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that Nuvei chief executive officer Philip Fayer says he is just getting started and sees no trouble ahead in the increasingly competitive payments sector. The Post's Victor Ferreeira writes that Mr. Fayer understands that expectations are high for the company after it raised $833-million (U.S.) in an initial public offering last week. Mr. Fayer, however, prefers to emphasize that Nuvei is still on the "ground floor," even after its stock nearly doubled in less than a week of trading. Mr. Fayer says: "This is not an ending, it's a beginning and we're really excited with the tailwinds we have across the board. We're hungry." Investors who may not know the name Nuvei need look no further than the stock's performance thus far to realize it was one of the most anticipated Canadian listings in recent history. Nuvei's IPO was priced at $26 (U.S.) but shares have shot up substantially since. On Wednesday, the stock closed at $49.20 (Canadian), up nearly 7 per cent on the day and up more than 40 per cent from its IPO price. Nuvei's edge, Mr. Fayer explains, is that it is a global company that works with 150 different currencies and supports 450 payment methods.
