New York spot gold fell $4.60 to $1,942.10 on Friday. The TSX-V dipped 8.68 points to 733.37 while the TSX gold index lost 3.86 points to 380.67. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today. Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) lost one cent to $8.83 on 1.55 million shares on word that it now has clearance to merge with SSR Mining Inc. (SSR). SSR, which dipped 28 cents to $27.21 on 1.28 million shares, said in May that it would offer 0.3246 share for each share of Alacer, a $1.8-billion offer that would give the latter company's shareholders a 43-per-cent interest in the expanded SSR. Going the other way was Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR). It added eight cents to $2.82 on 4.3 million shares.

Kristina Walcott's Freegold Ventures Ltd. (FVL) slumped 24 cents to $1.16 on 9.17 million shares on receipt of assays from a new hole at its Golden Summit gold project near Fairbanks in central Alaska. The new test, the second of the program, produced 1.02 grams of gold per tonne over 136 metres from an interval at depth. Two somewhat shallower zones also yielded gold: 2.3 grams per tonne over 12 metres and 0.93 gram per tonne over nearly 50 metres.
