The Canadian Securities Exchange Composite Index gained 13.65 points to 438.34 Wednesday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted an update on the vaping-caused health crisis in the United States that has killed 57 people (as of Jan. 7). The CDC reiterated its stance that people not use THC-containing vapes or e-cigarettes, particularly from informal sources (meaning from an unofficial source -- friends, family or the black market). Seventy-eight per cent of patients reported acquiring the vapes only from informal sources, while 16 per cent of patients bought the products only from legal dispensaries. The risk, therefore, is much higher when buying off of the black market, but it is not completely eliminated by buying from the legal market, the CDC surmises.

The outbreak of illnesses caused by these products has led Alberta, Quebec and Newfoundland to ban vape sales. If the problem stops and legal vape products are deemed to be "safe" again, the provinces could reinstate vape sales.
