The Canadian Securities Exchange Composite Index dropped 7.81 points to 437.90 Tuesday, reaching yet another low. The United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an update on its investigations of the lung injuries caused by vaping and e-cigarettes. While the investigation is still continuing, the CDC believes that THC-containing (the compound in cannabis that gets you "high") vape products have played a role in the outbreak. The data show that those affected were more often using THC products than nicotine products. The CDC found that 77 per cent of affected patients reported use of THC-containing products, with or without nicotine-containing products. Thirty-six per cent of patients reported exclusive use of THC-containing products, while 16 per cent said they exclusively used nicotine-containing products.

Other states, including Wisconsin and Illinois, have similarly found THC products to be commonly associated with these illnesses. Based on the data, the CDC is recommending that the public refrain from using e-cigarettes or vaping products, especially those that contain THC. It is not all bad news for the licensed producers investing in vaping, though. The CDC notes that the Wisconsin and Illinois reports showed that almost all of the THC-containing vape products were acquired from informal sources, such as friends, illegal dealers or off the street. In other words, the dangerous products seem to be coming from the black market.
