The Successful Investor, in the August, 2019, issue, says buy Thomson Reuters Corp., recently $87. The Investor previously said buy 19 times from April, 2008, to January, 2019, at prices ranging from $28 to $68. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 19 buys, the $19,000 position is now worth $40,977. Thomson Reuters is the owner of the Reuters news service, and also sells specialized information products to the financial, legal and accounting industries. Its stock has risen by over one-third since Oct. 1, 2018, the date it sold 55 per cent of its Refinitiv financial information business for $17-billion (U.S.). The Investor says the stock is "still appealing" even after this rise. Although Thomson Reuters is now trading at 34.8 times its projected 2020 earnings of $1.91 a share (an expensive price/earnings ratio), the Investor says the company's new focus on selling software and content should boost revenue by 3.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent annually. Earnings should benefit from cost savings at Refinitiv. Thomson Reuters remains a buy.
