The Canadian Securities Exchange Composite Index fell 12.20 points to 614.99 Thursday. All the attention in the industry continues to be on Canntrust Holdings Inc. (TRST), which fell eight cents to $4.04 on 15.89 million shares. Health Canada originally learned that Canntrust had been growing marijuana in unlicensed rooms at its Pelham, Ont., facility from a "tip" that the self-described "leading predictive analytics and market research" firm Harvest Moon Research said came from former employees. According to those former employees, who are unnamed, Canntrust's human resources department posted the staff's payroll information to every employee. This purported offence, amongst other things, allegedly caused those employees to run off to Health Canada to disclose how Canntrust had been breaking rules.

Since Canntrust issued a news release on Monday revealing that it had been caught and deemed non-compliant by Health Canada, negative news has continued to trickle in throughout the week. Earlier today, Alberta said it would stop selling some Canntrust products until it receives further information from Health Canada. Ontario has already temporarily stopped selling some Canntrust products. Stenocare, which is a Danish medical cannabis company that has a joint venture with Canntrust, also announced it would restrict the sale of five batches of products that it received from Canntrust.
