New York spot gold rose $12.50 to $1,505.60 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange dipped 3.45 points to 552.67 while the TSX Gold Index added 6.19 points to 250.33. Most Canadian gold miners were strong today. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) added 18 cents to $2.28 on 960,000 shares, while Yamana Gold Inc/ (YRI) added 15 cents to $4.66 on 3.72 million shares.
Dr. Michael Byron's Nighthawk Gold Corp. (NHK), down one-half cent to 46 cents on 313,000 shares, has received assays of up to 10.08 grams of gold per tonne over 6.5 metres from its Treasure Island gold project, just north of its Colomac project on the Indin Lake property in the Northwest Territories. The assays from the first eight of 17 holes yielded plenty of intercepts, including a few others with grades topping 10 grams per tonne. Meanwhile, a few of the lower-grade assays spanned longer intervals, including a 39.75-metre hit that averaged 1.1 grams of gold per tonne.
