New York spot gold fell $11.30 to $1,493.70 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange dipped 8.00 points to 542.60 while the TSX Gold Index lost 0.39 point to 248.21. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today, at least early on, but Centerra Gold Inc (CG) was strong all day, ending the day up 17 cents to $12.73 on 1.15 million shares.

Renaud Adams's New Gold Inc. (NGD) was among those in retreat, as it lost two cents to $1.32 on 2.91 million shares. The company said today that it produced nearly 129,000 ounces of gold in its third quarter. That includes just over 75,000 ounces of gold equivalent at its Rainy River mine in Northwestern Ontario, bringing the nine-month tally to about 205,000 ounces. Therefore, says Mr. Renaud, chief executive officer, the mine should hit the company's 2019 guidance of up to 275,000 equivalent ounces.

Chris Taylor's Great Bear Resources Ltd. (GBR) slumped 78 cents to $6.90 on 823,000 shares. The company has new assays showing thick intervals of low-grade gold in new areas at its Dixie gold project, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. The assays, from a continuing 90,000-metre program, produced 1.08 grams of gold per tonne over 125 metres in a hit between the Bear-Rimini and Yuma zones, and 2.55 grams per tonne over 26 metres between Yuma and the Auro zone. High-grade hits were notably absent in the assays from these latest eight holes, which probed targets along the LP fault, although one 0.5-metre zone did return 43.36 grams per tonne.
